If you happen to be near the San Diego area on August 1st, consider joining me and the well known yoga instructor, Stacy McCarthy, for a day of mindful meditation and astrology. I met Stacy and her husband Tom, the last time I was teaching at Rancho La Puerta. Stacy is a magnificent yoga teacher, and we both have a similar approach to teaching – which is to keep it simple and fun. Together on August 1st, we will usher in the new month, with a day of combining our talents. There will be a hike and then an astrology workshop at a private residence. If you are interested in attending, just email me at email@example.com. I will also be in Mexico, presenting at Rancho La Puerta the week of July 25th, in case any of you are interested in crossing the border. Hasta Luego!
Greetings! I’ve just been invited to teach at Rancho La Puerta the week of May 30-June 6th, 2015. Many of you know I have been a guest presenter at the Ranch since 2000. It has been consistently rated the number one destination spa in the world. I have traveled all over this planet, and this spa is one of those rare and dreamy places, where you will have incredible experiences and meet like-minded people. If you would like to be a first time visitor, you can make a reservation and mention my name. You will receive 5% off the best available rate, plus a $250 gift certificate, and a room upgrade if available. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Perhaps you’d also like to join me at Rancho La Puerta the week of July 25th, 2015?
This morning in London a new royal baby was born. She is so new that we don’t even have a photo of her yet, much less a name. I predict she will be a chubby cheeked little princess, and will look a lot like her brother George, as she has Cancer as her rising sign, which often gives that round face with full cheeks. This child will be extremely close to her brother. They have compatible moons, and George presents a Jupiter conjunction with his Jupiter (planet of good fortune) on her Cancer rising sign. The two of them are going to be best friends for life. There should be little, if any, sibling rivalry. Little Georgie will simply adore his baby sister. This little girl will have a beautifully happy childhood. Her biggest issue in life will be dealing with her Moon squaring Pluto, as this can cause some depression, but overall she is in good shape. Her biggest challenges will occur when she grows up and gets married. She has Pluto in the 7th house of marriage, so it is important that she marries someone who is a powerful healer or artist. Pluto is all about the evolutionary lesson for this lifetime, so for this princess it will all be about her future partnerships.
A client recently asked my opinion about the current retrograde movement of Pluto, which will be there until September 25, 2015. Whenever a planet appears to be going in reverse (even though it is not) it just means that this planet’s energies get more intense. Pluto is all about digging for the truth. Pluto wants us to transform. These are times to get rid of the outworn, outdated, and obsolete things in our lives. Pluto is the planet of death and rebirth. There is nothing easy about Pluto, so when it is retrograde it means hunkering in for some deep occurrences that will possibly make your life feel topsy turvy. But remember, in the end, just like the caterpillar that thinks it is dying, there is always a butterfly that appears.
I just finished a reading for a client who had a significant astrological aspect indicating trauma. As is often the case, the person said that nothing really bad had happened to them….that she could remember! Another clue that there was trauma, was that she could not remember anything before the fifth grade. The chart always tells the true story. I have to be patient, and wait for the client to eventually reveal the memories. What happens is that many people tend to bury the painful memories in order to survive. Just as my client was preparing to leave, she remembered a trauma. It was significant. Sometimes as astrologers we just have to be patient, and allow the thoughts to percolate. The beauty of astrology is that the chart will show things that a psychotherapist could never know. A good astrologer has the ability to allow the truth to bubble to the surface for healing. An astrologer can’t facilitate the healing, in the way that a therapist is trained to do, but an astrologer can find the root causes of many traumas. I have always felt that astrology is fantastic to use in conjunction with psychotherapy, and especially in conjunction with my favorite tool for trauma – EMDR. To find out more about EMDR, check out the videos of Dr. Andrew Dobo on You Tube. Let me know if you’ve experienced EMDR and help spread the word about this amazing technique to help heal emotional wounds. And don’t forget that Mercury went retrograde on January 21st. Mercury is retrograde in Aquarius, so wherever Aquarius is in your chart is where you will feel the “backward” motion. It goes direct on February 11, so just mark it in your calendar. (You can read earlier posts about Mercury retrograde to get the feeling tone of this period.)
Over 5,000 years ago, astrology evolved from the observations of celestial movement made by people dependent upon natural rhythms for their survival. They noticed that planetary movements had an influence on the timing for planting and harvesting. The ancient civilizations of the Akkadians and the Sumerians worshipped the star. Their astrological observations were further developed by the Babylonians into an astrological system. The earliest artist renderings, depicted the constellations in the familiar animal and mythical form, are on Babylonian stones dating back to 1100 B.C. They have recognizable symbols for Sagittarius, Capricorn and Scorpio carved into them. After the fall of Babylonia, astrologers moved their schools. The science of astrology moved to Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as to the Orient. The structure of astrology, as we practice it today, was fixed by the Romans during the time of Christ’s birth. As we approach Christmas day, think about the three wise men who found baby Jesus. They were following the star of David. These wise men were called “magi”, which means astrologer. Much of the art found in monasteries, churches, cathedrals and abbeys reflects the acceptance of astrology into the church doctrine. Even the Vatican is amply decorated with astrological themes, as is the cathedral of Notre Dame. So during this holiday season, consider the connection between astrology and Christmas, and I wish all of you a safe and happy end to 2014.
A friend sent me a Thanksgiving prayer. It included giving thanks to the stars and to enlightened teachers. I have included these two segments below.
On this Thanksgiving, I am indeed grateful for having the gift of being able to read astrology charts. It is a wisdom that has been passed onto me. I feel blessed to be able to share it with others.
Here is the prayer:
We give thanks to the Stars who are spread across the sky like jewelry. We see them in the night, helping the Moon to light the darkness and bringing dew to the gardens and growing things. When we travel at night, they guide us home. With our minds gathered together as one, we send greetings and thanks to all the Stars.
We gather our minds to greet and thank the enlightened teachers who have come to help throughout the ages. When we forget how to live in harmony, they remind us of the way we were instructed to live as people. With one mind, we send greetings and thanks to these caring Teachers.
